‘Destroyed David Letterman’s entire legacy’: Watch Scott Jennings savor chance to ‘eulogize’ Stephen Colbert’s ‘garbage’ show

Republican strategist Scott Jennings on Friday celebrated the announcement that CBS late-night talk-show host Stephen Colbert would be out of work as of May 2026.

CBS announced Thursday that Colbert’s show would end in May 2026, citing a lack of profitability, adding that the show itself would be retired at that time. Jennings, on “The Scott Jennings Radio Show,” asked the technical crew of his show to play Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel” as he prepared to “eulogize” Colbert’s program.

“The other big media story last night? Let’s cue the music, we gotta cue it up for, we have to eulogize our friend Stephen Colbert,” Jennings said as the song, often used in ASPCA commercials, began.

Jennings played Colbert’s announcement to the studio audience on Thursday night’s episode of “The Late Show” before he began roasting the late-night host.

“How bad at your job do you have to be for your company to not only fire you, but to board up your office so that no one else can ever go in there again?” Jennings asked. “That’s what’s happening to Stephen Colbert, who will forever be remembered as the person who destroyed David Letterman’s entire legacy.”

“Look at who’s mad about this, by the way, that tells you all you need to know about why it was cancelled. Look who’s mad about it,” Jennings continued. “Elizabeth Warren is mad, she wants congressional investigations. Stacey Abrams is mad. ‘The news of Stephen Colbert cancellation is disheartening. I’ve appeared on there four different times.’ Only Stacey Abrams could make it about her.”

CBS settled a $10 billion lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump over the editing of an October 2024 interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris, who was Trump’s opponent in the 2024 presidential election, drawing criticism from inside the company. Warren claimed that the settlement was akin to “bribery” in a Thursday post on X.

“The fact that Stacey was on there four times ought to tell ya,” Jennings said. “A failed Democrat gubernatorial candidate from a state got four slots on Colbert and they’re wondering why nobody wants to watch this garbage anymore?”
