WATCH: Scott Jennings reveals whether he’ll seek elected office
CNN senior political commentator Scott Jennings revealed Monday whether a future in electoral politics is something he’s actively considering.
Jennings has served as a political commentator and on-air contributor for CNN since June 2017, when he signed a contract with the network to provide regular political analysis. Appearing on “Finnerty,” Newsmax host Rob Finnerty asked Jennings whether he plans to seek elected office. Jennings did not commit to a run, but he also did not shut the door to the idea.
“Do you plan on running for office, maybe in Kentucky, which seems like an interesting state? You’ve got Rand Paul, Thomas Massie, Mitch McConnell. Your governor is a Democrat, Andy Beshear. Do you plan on ever getting into politics?” Finnerty asked Jennings.
“Possibly. I get a lot of encouragement. Not in the near term, certainly, but in the medium term? We’ll see. I get a lot of encouragement, both from in the state and from around the country. But, truthfully, I’m very happy with my life right now,” Jennings said.

Jennings pointed to his expanding media footprint as a reason to stay put.
“I’ve got a great platform at CNN. The book is doing well. We made the New York Times bestseller list. I have a radio show on the Salem network that’s now two hours. That started today. We’re in 300 and something radio stations across the country,” Jennings said. “So [I’m] sort of focused on using my voice to fight the Libs and make the best case I can for conservatives across this country. And we’ll see what the future holds, but I certainly haven’t ruled it out, and I’m extremely interested.”
Jennings served in key roles for former President George W. Bush’s 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns and later became Special Assistant to the President for Political Affairs in the Bush White House. He has worked as a senior advisor on numerous Republican Senate, congressional, and local political campaigns, including long-standing work with Republican Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell and other GOP figures.
Jennings has publicly aligned himself with President Donald Trump, saying on “The PBD Podcast” that he has voted Republican his entire life and came to see Trump as the clear, common-sense choice over Democratic alternatives.
“Well, I’ve voted Republican my whole life. And I did vote for him three times. But like everybody else, I didn’t get it. I mean, I readily admit I did not get it. I did not understand it,” Jennings said. “I did not get how this guy who hadn’t been a Republican was coming along to take over the Republican Party. I just — I did not get it. And so over time, I began to realize what he was doing. And I also began to realize the choice. And in 2024, for me, there was no — I mean, [former Vice President] Kamala Harris versus Donald Trump? The idea of common sense versus whatever it is she was selling.”
