‘Buffoonery to a whole new level’: Gregg Jarrett stunned at Tim Walz’s newest demands for Minneapolis

Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett blasted Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Friday over calls for federal taxpayer dollars to cover damages stemming from anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) riots.

Walz is demanding that the federal government “pay for what they broke” after the Trump administration announced plans to scale back its immigration enforcement presence in the Twin Cities. Jarrett said on The Evening Edit that Walz has elevated political foolishness to new heights, arguing the governor’s push for federal reimbursement glosses over how local officials handled the riots and destruction in Minneapolis.

“First of all, they’ll never get it, and second of all, it’s utterly ludicrous. Tim Walz has taken buffoonery to a whole new level, famously calling himself, of course, a knucklehead during the vice-presidential debate,” Jarrett said. “Look, it was his citizens that engaged in the rioting, in the acts of violence, and the destruction, and upon orders from the Minneapolis mayor and encouragement from Tim Walz.”

Jarrett said local leaders are responsible for the destruction, adding that rioters, who are residents of the governor’s own state, carried out acts of violence and property damage while city and state officials failed to maintain order.

“Law enforcement was essentially told to stand down. If their people had actually done their jobs, it wouldn’t have happened or unfolded in the way that it did. But for the federal government to reimburse them for their own damage, it’s absurd,” Jarrett said.

Border czar Tom Homan announced that the immigration enforcement surge in Minneapolis would end after weeks of mass detentions and protests.

“As a result of our efforts here, Minnesota is now less of a sanctuary state for criminals,” Homan said at a news conference. “I have proposed and President Trump has concurred that this surge operation conclude.”

Following Homan’s announcement, Walz said the federal government should cover the damages and costs stemming from unrest tied to immigration enforcement operations, saying Washington must take responsibility rather than walk away.

“The federal government needs to pay for what they broke here,” said Walz. “There [is] going to be accountability on the things that happened, but one of the things is the incredible and immense costs that were borne by the people of this state. The federal government needs to be responsible. You don’t get to break things and then just leave without doing something about it.”
