Lubin wipes out Attou in WBC eliminator
Erickson Lubin dominated Zakaria Attou in a mismatch on Showtime.
Erickson Lubin made it three straight wins in tonight’s WBC junior middleweight eliminator, dominating France’s Zakaria Attou en route to a fourth round stoppage in Houston.
Lubin (21-1, 16 KO) had his way for the first three rounds, then attacked and dropped Attou (29-7-2, 7 KO) in the fourth round, with Attou’s corner throwing in the towel once their fighter got up.
It’s clear that Attou, 37, also suffered a biceps injury, but that’s not the reason he lost this fight. He had no business in an eliminator, no business in the ring with Lubin at all, really. He’s an OK fighter who tops at European level, while Lubin is a legit prospect, even with his one loss. He has world level ability and Attou just does not. The injury obviously didn’t help, but he wasn’t doing any better before that.
CompuBox saw Lubin landing 51 of 177 (29%) total punches, and 32 of 78 (41%) power shots, compared to a meager 6 of 86 (7%) total punches for Attou, including 5 of 47 (11%) of his power shots. This was a complete mismatch.
“My next fight won’t be for a title, but I definitely want to get in there with a top 10 type of guy like Austin Trout or Terrell Gausha,” Lubin said after the fight, noting that the 154-pound belts in the PBC family are currently tied up in rematches (Harrison-Charlo II, Williams-Hurd II) later this year.
