Ex-Sky Sports presenter Ian Payne shares shocking photo after being glassed in the face

TV sports presenter Ian Payne has revealed he was glassed in the face on a night out and shared a shocking photo online.

The 56-year-old, who has worked for Sky Sports and is now ITV’s sports presenter, uploaded the aftermath to Twitter.

Showing his face stitched up, Payne wrote: “Thank-you Met Police and NHS West Middlesex Hospital for your amazing skills.

“Not thank u to the glasser who thought this was ok.”

He also shared a photo of a bloodied tissue he used after the attack.

Hundreds of people expressed their shock and support for the TV and radio star, wishing him well in his recovery.

Payne then went on to post a series of comments explaining how he was on a night out “at the pub” when he was confronted by three people.

He also worryingly explained how he didn’t really know how it happened, and that “one minute I’m having a laugh, next minute A & E.”

Payne went on to pay huge tribute to the NHS and the police who helped him after the shocking incident.

PRAISES EMERGENCY SERVICES

He wrote: “When you need them, our emergency services are the best in the world. Seriously. Thank you.

“The police were amazing. And the doctors. Seriously. Amazing.

He then went on to re-assure the well-wishers that he was “fine, all good.”

The world of media and sport showed their concern in messaging the presenter.

Journalist Henry Winter wrote: “Shocking, Ian. Speedy recovery.”

And former Everton and Scotland footballer Don Hutchinson tweeted: “Bloody hell mate you ok?”

TV and radio presenter Jacqui Oatley posted: “That’s absolutely shocking! So sorry it happened.

“Hope they identify/catch the culprit. Get well soon x.”

Payne was one of the leading lights at BBC Radio 5Live before he moved to Sky Sports in 2003 to front their football coverage.

He now works for ITV News as sports correspondent as well as hosts a current-affairs phone-in on LBC.

SunSport has contacted ITV for comment as well as Payne for more information on the incident.
