Mayweather to face off against McGregor and Nasukawa in live version of TV classic show Superstars
FLOYD MAYWEATHER is set to challenge old opponents Conor McGregor and Tenshin Nasukawa again – in a live version of the TV classic Superstars.
The popular hit 1970s BBC show saw participants compete in different combat, strength and speed challenges, as well as physical endurance tests.
Now the Daily Star report a live version is set to be held on New Year’s Eve in Japan, with UFC star McGregor, 31, close to agreeing a £10million deal to compete on the show.
A source told the paper: “Conor is on the edge of signing.
“There is no direct combat involved so it doesn’t breach his UFC contract and he should be fine to take part.”
Superstars pitted different sports stars against each other who competed in ten different events and the competitor with the most points was declared the champion.
After the success of Team GB at the 2012 London Olympics, the BBC revived Superstars for a single special edition with Mo Farah, Anthony Joshua, Nicola Adams and Jade Jones among those involved.
The Men’s Championship was won by Olympic Super-heavyweight boxing champion Joshua, while the women’s competition was won by coxless pair Olympic champion Helen Glover.
Retired unbeaten boxer Mayweather, 42, who beat McGregor in a £550m crossover bout in 2017, is also said to be involved in the competition.
The American will not only face The Notorious for a second time but also Japanese kickboxer Nasukawa.
Mayweather travelled to Tokyo on New Year’s Eve last year for an exhibition bout against the featherweight boxing novice.
In a one-sided first round demolition the 50-0 ring legend dropped featherweight Nasukawa three times before the bout was stopped, with the 42-year-old pocketing £7m.

Another popular Japanese kickboxer is said to be joining Mayweather, McGregor and Nasukawa in the Superstars re-make.
It comes after Mayweather spent time in Japan promoting his TMT brand earlier this year and discussed more exhibition bouts involving him and his stable of fighters he promotes.
During a visit to Hong Kong last month the American held preliminary talks with local boxing promoters DEF Promotions.
