CFFC 84 results: Jared Scoggins wins vacant bantamweight title in dominant fashion
Jared Scoggins has some new hardware.
The 25-year-old prospect picked up the vacant bantamweight CFFC title in the main event of CFFC 84 on Thursday night at the Horeshoe Tunica Hotel and Casino in Robinsonville, Miss. Scoggins (10-1 MMA) outpointed Thomas Vasquez in a dominant unanimous decision win.
Scoggins wasn’t afraid to stand with Vasquez (8-5 MMA), but his wrestling and ground control really stood out and made the difference in the bout.
The first round was a competitive affair, but Scoggins managed to get the better of the clinch entanglements and pushed the action, neutralizing much of Vasquez’s attacks.
In rounds two, three and four, Scoggins took down Vasquez, controlled him on the ground, and took dominant positions. Vasquez did a good job at defending submissions and avoiding big shots, but was unable to get back on his feet or threaten much from the ground.
It was a clean performance by Scoggins.
“I come in here and people are expecting me to strike, I put them on their back and that just flips their whole game plan upside down,” Scoggins said in his post-fight interview. “If I can do it why not grind it out.”
“Psycho” is currently on a five-fight winning streak. His last defeat was in early 2017. The newest CFFC champion hopes his performance gets the attention of the UFC.
“I think I’ve been ready for the UFC for a while, so hopefully those guys hit me up and you can see me on the next UFC fight or something,”
