Breedy ready to prove his quality against Nyambayar

With a short notice opportunity, Cobia Breedy wants to break through in the featherweight division on Saturday.

Cobia Breedy wasn’t supposed to be facing Tugstsogt Nyambayar on Saturday night (SHO, 9 pm ET), but after Eduardo Ramirez pulled out late, the 28-year-old from Barbados got the call, has answered it, and now will look to break through in the featherweight division.

Breedy (15-0, 5 KO), now based in Maryland, is taking a big step up in competition against Nyambayar (11-1, 9 KO), who challenged for a world title in February and is a former Olympic silver medalist. The Mongolian will be a heavy favorite in this matchup, but that also means Breedy has very little to lose.

“I’m never under pressure because I know that I’m doing this for. I’m doing this for my people back home in Barbados,” he said. “I’m doing it for my family, my wife, and everybody who supports me. I’m going to show everyone who ‘Soldier’ Breedy is.”

Breedy says he’s taken certain things from many top fighters, and that depending on what Nyambayar looks to do in the fight, he’ll be ready with different tactics.

“Me and my coach have this thing called the seven styles of boxing. People say I fight like Tim Bradley, Manny Pacquiao, and Floyd Mayweather,” he said. “And that’s where my separate styles come into play. I even have some old school Joe Frazier that comes into play. It depends what Nyambayar brings to the table. Whatever he has, we’re going to match him.”

And as far as fighting for the folks back home, Breedy says it’s about more than just himself and his own accomplishments.

“Being a world champion from Barbados would make history. It would be great for my people,” he said. “Boxing in Barbados is not a big thing. It’s different there. Me bringing back hope for my country would be an amazing thing. I could show kids there that you can come from Barbados and follow your dreams.

“I’ve been around a lot of world champions in training, so I feel like I know what it takes to get to the next level. Now I just have to show it in the ring Saturday.”

Bad Left Hook will have full live coverage of Showtime’s Lubin-Gausha broadcast starting at 9 pm ET on Saturday, Sept. 19.
