Medvedev Joins Thiem In Mallorca, Accepts Wild Card
Daniil Medvedev has accepted a wild card into next week's Mallorca Championships, the tournament announced on Wednesday. The Russian joins Dominic Thiem, another wild card, at the ATP 250 event.
The World No. 2 competed on Tuesday at the NOVENTI OPEN in Halle, where as the top seed he was upset in the first round by big-hitting German Jan-Lennard Struff. He owns an 18-13 tour-level record on grass.

Medvedev's best result on the surface came two years ago, when he made the semi-finals at the cinch Championships in London. In 2017, as a 21-year-old, the Russian upset then-World No. 3 Stan Wawrinka in the first round at Wimbledon.
Medvedev had a clay-court breakthrough at Roland Garros, where he advanced to the quarter-finals. It was announced that Thiem would take a Mallorca wild card after the Austrian star lost in the first round on the Parisian clay.
The Mallorca Championships was originally set to make its debut in 2020, but was cancelled due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
