Roma turn from Xhaka to Delaney
With Arsenal refusing to sell Granit Xhaka, Jose Mourinho and Roma are looking to Borussia Dortmund’s Danish international Thomas Delaney.
Xhaka had been the clear first choice for Mou from the moment he arrived at the Stadio Olimpico, but Arsenal rejected several proposals and coach Mikel Arteta slammed the door shut this week.
According to Calciomercato.it and Bild, the next target is going to be Delaney, who turns 30 next month and is in the final season of his contract at Borussia Dortmund.
His transfer value is circa €10m, but seeing as his contract expires in June 2022, Roma are hoping to get him for less.
The Denmark international has six goals in 60 senior caps for his country, helping them reach the UEFA EURO 2020 semi-final with a decisive goal against the Czech Republic.
He has been in Germany since January 2017, first for Werder Bremen and then Dortmund.
Delaney scored one goal and provided five assists for his club teammates in 34 competitive games for BVB last season.
