Miesha Tate tests positive for COVID-19, fight against Ketlen Vieira postponed from UFC event on Oct. 16

Miesha Tate will have to wait until a later date for her showdown against Ketlen Vieira after the former bantamweight champion tested positive for COVID-19.

Sources close to the situation confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Wednesday following an initial report from Sherdog.com

Tate was originally scheduled to clash with Vieira in the main event at the UFC Fight Night card on Oct. 16 but now the matchup is expected to be postponed to a later date. There’s no exact timeline for the rescheduled matchup, although Tate and Vieira are still expected to meet later this year.

It’s an unfortunate turn of events for Tate, who made her return to mixed martial arts back in July where she earned a third-round TKO victory over Marion Reneau. It was Tate’s first appearance in the UFC following her retirement in 2016.

Following that win, Tate wasted no time booking her next fight against Vieira with that bout scheduled as a five-round main event.

While all signs are pointing towards a quick recovery for Tate, she still won’t be able to compete on Oct. 16 after testing positive for COVID-19.

The UFC has made no official announcement about the change to the card or a new main event that will now fill the slot vacated by Tate vs. Vieira being postponed.
