Martusciello: ‘Lazio have not assimilated Sarri principles’
Maurizio Sarri’s assistant manager Giovanni Martusciello admits again that Lazio have ‘not yet assimilated some of the tactical principles’ after a last-gasp 1-1 draw at Torino.
Marko Pjaca had put the Granata in front with a header, but Vedat Muriqi was brought down by Koffi Djidji for a stoppage-time Ciro Immobile penalty.
“It was a good performance against a team that is difficult to face at this moment,” Martusciello told Sky Sport Italia, again filling in for Sarri during a two-game touchline ban.
Lazio had started with two wins, but have since picked up two points from four games between Serie A and the Europa League.
“In football, it doesn’t take much to go over the top with reactions one way or another. We struggled in the first half and conceded a goal, but the reaction was positive and brought the equaliser.”
Undoubtedly, this is still not a Sarri team and it again raises questions over just how long it takes for the coach to really get a team suited to his football.
“We lack consistency in training, because we don’t get the time to work and therefore we have not yet assimilated some of the tactical principles.
“Results are coming, we want to propose a different style of football to the one that Lazio have seen over the last four or five years. The lads are enjoying themselves, but it takes time to see what we do in training transmitted to the match situation.”
There isn’t much time, because Lazio have the Derby della Capitale showdown with Roma coming up on Sunday.
“I am not worried, we’ll be able to play our game on Sunday. Torino have a way of suffocating teams who try to play football and that’s what they did today.”
