Simeone warns Milan: ‘We’ll try to hurt them’
Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is looking forward to facing Milan in the Champions League, but warns the La Liga giants will ‘try to hurt’ the Rossoneri.
Milan host the La Liga champions at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza tomorrow.
Stefano Pioli stressed that Milan need to take care of every small detail after suffering a 3-2 defeat in the opening Champions League game of the season against Liverpool.
His counterpart Diego Simeone is looking forward to facing Milan at the Meazza, the same stadium where he played as a footballer for Inter.
“Playing with a team like Milan in the Champions League is fantastic. They are the best teams. They have grown in recent years. I like the Milan stadium,” the Argentinean said at a press conference.
“We know that we are going to face a strong rival, with good players, with a dynamic game. We will try to take him where we can hurt them.”
The Colchoneros lost their last La Liga fixture away at Alaves and have collected 14 points from seven league games.
“The mood is positive. We have character, we play well, but you have to find different situations and be able to reserve them. We hope to play a good game tomorrow,” the former midfielder ensured.
“The club made a great effort. This season, they’ve done so with the arrival of important players and the search for the best footballers for our squad.
“We need to maintain the aggressiveness that has always made us very competitive. We have a very balanced squad and we will have to search for those players who can best represent what we need for tomorrow’s game.”
Atletico Madrid were held to a 0-0 stalemate by Porto in the opening game of their Champions League campaign. They are the last team Milan faced in the Champions League in 2013-14.
Simeone was already the coach of the Colchoneros, while Clarence Seedorf was in charge of the Rossoneri.
