UFC 266 medical suspensions: Brian Ortega potentially out of action for 6 months
UFC 266 left a lot of ailing fighters in its wake, including headliner Brian Ortega.
In the main event of this past Saturday’s pay-per-view event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Ortega came out on the losing end of a thrilling five-round affair against featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. Ortega was battered in the third round and the fight looked like it might be stopped, but Ortega made it off the stool for the championship rounds.
That toughness came at a cost though, as Ortega suffered an eye injury that could keep him out until March 25. According to the list of medical suspensions acquired by mixedmartialarts.com, Ortega requires clearance from an ophthalmologist for a right orbital blowout fracture or he will be out for 180 days.
Nine other fighters also suffered injuries that could potentially leave them sidelined until next March: Jairzinho Rozenstruik (teeth), Marlon Moraes (right hand, left thumb), Dan Hooker (right foot), Shamil Abdurakhimov (nose), Taila Santos (right hand), Uros Medic (left thumb), Martin Sano (left thumb, nose), Jonathan Pearce (left hand), and Omar Morales (left ankle).
