PlayStation acquires Jade Raymond's Haven Studios
Sony is now the proud owner of Jade Raymond’s Haven Studios.
Raymond, best known for her work on Assassin’s Creed and Star Wars: Battlefront 2, founded Haven Studios last year while immediately beginning work on a project for PS5 and PC. On Monday, Sony announced its purchase of Haven Studios.
“The Haven team begins a new phase of our journey, as part of the PlayStation Studios family,” Raymond said via the PlayStation Blog. “As an first-party studio, we will have the opportunity to collaborate with some of the world’s most renowned development teams, including studios like Guerrilla, Naughty Dog, Media Molecule, and Insomniac Games, the creators of games that have inspired us as players and developers for years.”
“We’re excited to learn from these world-class studios, as well as the exceptional central creative, technology and marketing teams whose expertise will enable us to deliver even better games to players,” Raymond concludes.
Whatever Haven Studios is working on for PS5 hasn’t seen a reveal yet, though PlayStation has been an investor in the company since March 2021.
It’s been an enormous year for acquisitions within the games industry. PlayStation also bought Bungie in January for $3.6 billion. Meanwhile, Microsoft scooped up Activision Blizzard for a staggering $68.7 billion. Geoff Keighley claims that more big purchases are on the way, so we’re probably in for a wild year in that regard.
