During this week’s season preview Zo talked about the White Sox starting rotation and the obvious hit it took with the Lance Lynn injury. That adds to some of the apprehension among the fan base when it comes to the starting rotation, as the fifth spot was already a huge question mark while Michael Kopech will begin his first full year as a starter since 2018. Kopech will be on an innings limit, so you don’t really know how much Chicago will get out of him throughout the season.
Fans should feel pretty good about Lucas Giolito and Dylan Cease, but the rest? Right-handers Vince Velasquez and Johnny Cueto have been signed to help with the rotation depth and Reynaldo Lopez is still in the mix to contribute. And of course there’s Dallas Keuchel, who was excellent in his first season with the White Sox in 2020, but has lost major support from fans following his horrid end to the 2021 season.
Lynn is projected to return some time in late May to early June. Can the White Sox survive without his arm in the rotation and even when he does come back will this group hold up the entire year?
