Giants co-owner Steve Tisch ‘proud’ of team with ‘much work left to be done’
MINNEAPOLIS — Giants co-owner Steve Tisch was “proud” after Sunday’s playoff victory but acknowledged “there is much work left to be done” to build sustained success.
Tisch sent his message to the media in a lengthy statement provided by the Giants after the team’s 31-24 Wild Card win over the Vikings in year one of the Joe Schoen-Brian Daboll regime.
He has not spoken this extensively to the media, even through team statements, in three years.
“My family and I are proud of the players, coaches and staff and how everyone throughout the entire organization has worked together to make this a successful season,” Tisch said in the statement. “We are happy for the Giants fans who have endured some tough times with us in recent years. We appreciate their support, passion and enthusiasm.
“Joe and Dabs have laid the foundation for continued success,” Tisch continued. “We all agree there is much work left to be done. Their shared vision and constant dialogue is always about what is best for the organization, as is their consistent approach day in and day out and the great communication with John [Mara] and me.”
Tisch’s sentiment sounds familiar.
He was restless when he spoke in Jan. 2020, promising to be more present in East Rutherford, N.J., to help turn around the franchise. John Mara and Tisch compromised and retained GM Dave Gettleman while firing Pat Shurmur back then.
But Tisch also pushed for wholesale change last offseason, which led to the dismissals of both Gettleman and head coach Joe Judge.
Tisch endured a personal tragedy in the summer of 2020, so his silence and privacy have been respected. He was excited to see a win in Minnesota on Sunday, though, and remains dedicated to making sure this won’t be fleeting success.
