Aaron Boone compares struggling Yankees team needing turnaround to 'sick animals'

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone has come under a lot of fire lately for the uninspired play of his team.

After the Yankees let up a bizarre double play on a poorly timed bunt during Saturday’s 8-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox, MLB fans became more in awe of just how far the mighty have fallen in New York.

Speaking with reporters after Saturday’s defeat, Boone fielded a question about why he thinks his team can turn things around and get back in the playoff picture when they’ve only won one series since the end of June.

His answer … we’ll we’re going to let Boone take it from here.

“We have no other choice,” Boone told the reporter. “I don’t not think the turnaround’s coming. So we’re just going to get to work, and I know it’s a boring answer for you guys, but we gotta try and come win a ballgame tomorrow and expect when we walk in those doors today’s the day. That’s how we looked at it. That’s what we are. We’re sick animals in a lot of ways, alright? It’s a grind of the sport. We’ve gotta come ready to go tomorrow and fight our way through this.”

Boone continued that moments like this, ones where you take your lumps, reveal your character and find out about people, which is a fair point.

The Yankees manager’s central idea here, that the team can’t afford to worry about getting things turnaround because they’ve just got to make it happen, is valid. However, sick animals?

Like, are you saying that your team is just built different and is desperate enough to keep hope alive because it’s the only option right now, or are you saying that your team is just down for the count and needs help, like a sad puppy with a stomach ache? It’s a weird analogy!

Either way, Boone certainly has to be feeling the pressure from Yankees brass to get things fixed sooner than later. For a team that expectes itself to always be in the hunt for a World Series, New York needs to heal up fast.
