Report: Jimmy Garoppolo Suspended for Performance Enhancing Substance Violation
The NFL is suspending Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo two games for violating the league’s Performance Enhancing Substance Policy, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. Garoppolo reportedly broke the rule while using a prescribed medication despite not having a Therapeutic Use Exemption.
Garoppolo signed a three-year deal worth up to $77.25 million with the Raiders last offseason, but Las Vegas benched the quarterback halfway into his first season with the team. According to Schefter, Las Vegas is expected to release Garoppolo before the fifth-day of the new league year in March. The veteran is due a $11.25 million 2024 roster bonus late that month.
Per ESPN’s Field Yates, the suspension could void his base salary guarantees, regardless of whether he is on the team.

Garoppolo is not going to appeal the suspension, so he will serve the two-game ban with whichever team he signs for the 2024 season. As a result of this suspension and his injury history, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer says that Garoppolo could struggle to find a team in free agency.

Last year, Garoppolo played in seven games for Las Vegas and recorded 1,205 passing yards with seven touchdowns and nine interceptions.
