Why Caleb Williams Is Being Dubbed Greatest “Bulls**t” Player In NFL
Caleb Williams is one of the most divisive quarterbacks in the NFL right now. Experts and fans aren’t sure how to feel about him. On the one hand, he makes the basic stuff look way more challenging than it should. The layup throws shouldn’t be so difficult. On the other hand, Williams pulls off some of the most jaw-dropping plays you’ll ever see half a dozen times in a game. His natural ability is superstar level. His consistency is not. That is why people find it difficult to pick a stance on him.
In these situations, it can often be enlightening to get the opinion of somebody who isn’t as dedicated to football. Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus offered a perfect example. He spoke to a rugby reporter, who gave a description that perfectly encapsulates Williams.
There is probably no greater “bullsh**t” player in the NFL than the Chicago Bears‘ quarterback. His ability to wriggle out of trouble and make plays off the cuff rivals what Patrick Mahomes was during the peak of his run in Kansas City. The Green Bay Packers saw that version of Williams the entire second half on Sunday.

A quarterback being mobile isn’t anything new in this league. There have been plenty who can run. What makes Caleb Williams different is his ability to feel and avoid pressure, keep his eyes down the field, and deliver absolute lasers without setting his feet. Very few quarterbacks can do that with any consistency. The Bears quarterback does it with regularity. You can understand why defenses hate playing against him. He’s the type of guy who can render a perfect defensive call completely irrelevant.
This is why head coach Ben Johnson is determined to teach Williams the more traditional way to play. If he can learn how to operate consistently from the pocket, nothing defenses do will matter. If they play to contain him in the pocket, he’ll pick them apart. If they try blitzing, he’ll slither away and punish them for it. Such a process has yielded great results in the past with Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Russell Wilson. If that is where Williams is trending, things are about to get fun.
