Tare: ‘Milan will decide on Camarda, definitive Maignan response soon’
Milan director Igli Tare confirms Francesco Camarda could return early from his Lecce loan, while they will soon have a ‘definitive response’ from Mike Maignan on a new contract.
It kicks off at San Siro at 19.45 GMT (20.45 CET).
Camarda is still owned by Milan and on loan at Lecce, but he is not even on the bench today due to a shoulder injury that will keep him out for a couple of weeks.
Nonetheless, there have been reports the youngster could return to San Siro in the transfer window to bolster the attacking options, as Santiago Gimenez’s injury problems drag on.
Milan look to the present and the future
“We’ll talk to Lecce after the game. There is common sense from both parties, and after this match we’ll decide what to do,” Tare told DAZN Italia.
“We will be alert on the transfer market, and if there’s something that can help us, we will go for it, but for now we are fine as we are,” Tare told DAZN Italia.
The Rossoneri had seen some disappointing recent results, held to 1-1 draws by relegation battlers Genoa and Fiorentina, but got back on track with the rescheduled Week 16 trip to Como on Thursday.
Adrien Rabiot’s brace saw them come away with a 3-1 victory, albeit one against the run of play, as Maignan made several huge saves.
The goalkeeper reminded everyone just how crucial he is, so Milan need to lock him down to a new contract, with his current deal expiring on June 30.
“What we need is to sit down around the table and find the solution, but we know Mike loves this club and the club wants to continue together too,” replied Tare.
“I think in the next few weeks, we’ll have a definitive response, but I have always been positive on this issue.”
As Napoli stalled lately and Juventus were beaten by Cagliari last night, this is an opportunity for Milan to keep up the title pace set by leaders Inter.
However, they’ve seen repeatedly this term that points were dropped against the so-called ‘smaller’ opponents, and Lecce already caused a recent upset holding Juventus 1-1 in Turin.
