Rigondeaux, Flores reach deal for June 17 title fight

Guillermo Rigondeaux and Moises Flores have come to terms on a deal which will end the need for a purse bid.

The WBA has announced that Guillermo Rigondeaux (17-0, 11 KOs) and Moises Flores (25-0, 17 KOs) have reached an agreement for a June 17 junior featherweight title fight, cancelling Tuesday’s scheduled purse bid. Interestingly enough, ESPN reports the fight is being targeted for the undercard of a rematch between light heavyweights Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev, although that fight has yet to be formally announced.

That aside, Rigondeaux and Flores will both be coming off year-long layoffs by the time this fight goes down. A Rigo-Flores fight was ordered by the WBA last July and slated for the undercard of Miguel Cotto vs. James Kirkland, but after Kirkland pulled out of the fight with an injury, the entire card was scrapped which required Rigo-Flores to be rescheduled.

Rigondeaux last appeared in July when he made easy work of ‘Jazza’ Dickens, stopping him after two rounds. In Flores’ last outing he won a unanimous decision over Paulus Ambunda in June.
