Miguel Cotto talks split with Roc Nation
Miguel Cotto explains the abrupt ending of his relationship with Roc Nation Sports.
In this video interview with FightHub, Miguel Cotto answers some questions from the media on his upcoming title fight, his last outing against Canelo Alvarez, as well as what prompted the fallout between him and Roc Nation Sports.
On what it means to him to be fighting for another world title:
“You know it’s an honor for me to [be back again] and for the WBO championship is something extra.”
On fighting at the StubHub Center for the first time:
“I’ll do my best during the training camp and I know it’s going to be a great night for boxing at the StubHub Center. I’m going to do my best, as always.”
On his thoughts about Kamegai being a large opponent:
“No, it’s just another boxer. He has two hands to fight like me and all that is going to talk about the night of August 26 is going to be the way we handle our training camps.”
On why he thinks people are calling for his retirement:
“I don’t know, I’m happy to be here. I’m healthy. I’m good here, you know, people will see what will Miguel Cotto have in boxing.”
On if he’s excited to be fighting Kamegai, a fighter with porous defense who won’t be hard to find:
“We are going to start camp on the beginning of July. I know Freddie [Roach] already has the strategy...I know we’re going to [find] the key to him.”
On if he still feels like he’s close to retirement:
“I’m going to take the rest of this year in boxing and we’ll probably retire after December.”
On his thoughts on the Canelo-GGG fight:
“It’s going to be a great fight. You know it’s going to be a great night for boxing all around the world and I know it’s going to be the kind of fight that the sport needs.”
On how he would rate Canelo’s power:
“I think that they’re already skilled guys, strong boxers, and they have to find their key to beat each other in their fight.”
On why he split with Roc Nation and signed with Golden Boy:
“No, we just decide to split our relationship. Just we understood that we are going to be better - Roc Nation on their path and Miguel on his path and that was all.”
On if the split was over money (which it always is):
“No, it’s just that we understood that we can’t go further in our relationship and we just decide to move on.”
