For the first time in nine years, staff at the Smithsonian's National Zoo are celebrating the birth of a male western lowland gorilla. Born on April 15, the baby is named Moke, which means "junior" or "little one" in the Lingala language. (April 16) According to the new genetic research-when combined with known fossils-the lineage that led to humans, chimps, and gorillas evolved from a common ancestor about 10 million years ago. A goat named Giraffette showed off her balancing skills by running on a barrel in Bloomington, Indiana, on April 9. In the video, the goat can be seen stepping onto a trash can barrel that was lying on its side. The goat is able to maintain its balance and even briefly runs on the barrel as it rolls until the goat eventually hops off.
