In Russia, in April-October, 78,247 people infected with coronavirus died, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said. The main cause of death of COVID-19 is indicated in 37,566 Russians. The overall mortality rate in ten months increased by 9.7% compared to the same period in 2019. The authorities expect an increase in mortality in November-December. According to the statistics of the operational headquarters, 45.3 thousand people have died from the coronavirus for the entire time.
According to Ms Golikova, in 8307 cases, it is assumed that the coronavirus could be the main cause, but tests need to be completed. In 32,374 cases, a different cause of death was indicated – the coronavirus could have had an effect on this or not.
“Taking into account all the factors that we are analyzing today, which we continue to identify, as well as the traditional increase in mortality in the winter season, which is observed according to the results of all statistics from previous years, we expect an increase in mortality rates in November and December of this year,” she said Mrs. Golikova to journalists.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that mortality from cardiovascular diseases is growing in Russia – this is the leading cause of death in Russia. “This increase in mortality is caused not only by the usual course of cardiovascular disease, but also by the course of the disease caused by the previously transferred covid — even in a mild form,” said Ms. Golikova.
According to Rosstat, the natural population decline in January-October amounted to 468 thousand people. 1.66 million people died, which is 10% more than in the same period last year. In October, 22.5 thousand people infected with coronavirus died. In 11.6 thousand cases, COVID-19 is listed as the main cause of death. The birth rate fell by 4.6% to 1.19 million.
