DeShone Kizer suffers rib injury vs. Lions, but returns to game
Cody Kessler came in for Kizer at quarterback while Kizer was tended to.
The Browns were forced to make another quarterback change on Sunday after DeShone Kizer suffered an injury on a big hit to his ribs. Cody Kessler entered the game for Kizer.
Kizer left the game as the Browns were tied with the Lions at 24-24. He would be taken to the locker room, and ruled questionable to return. He would return in the fourth quarter of the game.
What does this mean for the Browns? More inconsistency at the quarterback position. It’s seemed like week in and week out, the Browns have pulled a starter for a backup before ultimately giving the starting job back to Kizer, Kessler, or Kevin Hogan.
Kizer had the Browns in a tight contest that they had even led at a couple of moments in the game. The Browns are still looking for their first win of the season, and with Kizer’s injury, that could become more difficult now.
Hue Jackson has said throughout the season he would play whomever gives the Browns the best chance to win at quarterback. It’s why he’s benched Kizer in the past, but it appeared Sunday they had a shot with their rookie.
Luckily for the Browns, he came back. But Detroit had the game in hand by the time he returned.
