Is Lonzo Ball worth LaVar's antics?
It's happening again...
Let's be real. No one. Literally no one can put aside LaVar Ball as if he is just someone just talking nonsense and that we should not take him serious. LaVar Ball isn't just some bystander who is just displeased with his favorite team. He is the father of the Lakers supposed franchise point guard in Lonzo Ball who you can argue only got that title from the hype and pressure his own father put on him. LaVar Ball is in Lithuania right now acting as head coach to his two younger sons' pro team and obviously ESPN is following him everywhere. He's been in Lithuania for about a month now and everyone hasn't exactly heard from him that much. And then, his mouth begins to open yet again.
When asked by a Lithuanian reporter, LaVar Ball explained that he will not allow Lonzo Ball to resign with the Lakers after three years if the Lakers don't end up taking the two younger sons LiAngelo Ball and LaMelo Ball. LiAngelo Ball started out this year at UCLA but after controversial incidents in China, LiAngelo was suspended from the team along with two other teammates indefinitely, LaVar did not like the suspension and pulled LiAngelo from UCLA. LaMelo is the youngest son at the age of 16, could have been attending Chino Hills high school right now but once LaVar was told by the Chino Hills head coach that he doesn't want LaMelo shooting 50 times a game, LaMelo was pulled from Chino Hills and was also thrown overseas. LaVar's plan is to get all three of his sons on the Lakers by getting LiAngelo there via GLeague signings or Lakers drafting him this year. Ultimately in three or two years LaMelo would be eligible to go there as well. LaVar is on the record saying that if the Lakers do not sign any of the two, Lonzo will not be returning to the Lakers after his rookie contract is up.
What LaVar does not understand is that Lonzo doesn't have a say in his rookie contract, he is a restricted free agent once his deal is done and the Lakers would have an option to pick up his contract which ultimately they could along with Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma. What really makes LaVar Ball even more infuriating is that Lonzo Ball does not have the balls (no pun intended) to stand up to his father. Infact, Lonzo seems to be on board with everything his father says or does. Remember when Magic Johnson said the reason he traded D'Angelo Russell was because he "needed a leader." Indicating the Lonzo Ball was already a leader. Then he traded Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. on the deadline for Isaiah Thomas and basically said the same thing. Lonzo Ball has not shown to be leadership worthy for his father's mouth. At some point, the Lakers are gonna have to decide if Lonzo Ball worth listening to LaVar Ball's mouth.
