Backpass tactics (30 replies)
I was listening to some half-time comments by Tatts on Saturday about our much-maligned backpass tactics. He reckoned that a big part of this was intended to knacker out the oppositions forwards as they chase down the ball. He said the effectiveness of the tactic is evidenced by the number of times opposition forwards get subbed against us. I'm assuming that, given his position at the club, he wouldn't have made this up or been mistaken. I can't say that I was keen on the tactic before I heard this and frankly finding this out makes me even more sceptical about it. It didn't exactly help Tatts/SCs argument that Millwall shortly afterwards brought on a rapid forward who soon outpaced our defence and scored the winner.
