MONCTON N.B. – The QMJHL Draft Lottery took place this afternoon in Montreal, and the Wildcats now hold the third overall selection in the upcoming 2019 QMJHL Entry Draft in Quebec City. Along with the third overall selection, Moncton also holds one pick per round in the second, third and fourth.
It was only a few short years ago that the Wildcats had an early first-round pick. Rewind to 2017 when Moncton received the third overall selection, adding star forward Jakob Pelletier to the roster. Jakob made an immediate impact on the team, and continues to lead both on and off the ice. Last year we were also able to add Elliot Desnoyers to the team, picked in the 18
th spot of the first round, he proved himself with a strong rookie season in the league. We are looking forward to adding additional impactful players to our lineup this summer in Quebec City.
Wildcats Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, John Torchetti had this to add. “It’s exciting to add an elite and impact player to our team, this is someone that could be with our organization for a long time as we build a championship team in Moncton.”
The Wildcats finished 9
th overall this year in the QMJHL, however, during the 2016 season, a trade with Bathurst resulted in the Wildcats obtaining their first round pick in 2019. With the Acadie-Bathurst Titan finishing 18
th overall this year, that awarded us the highest percentage going into the draft lottery today.
“This is an exciting time for our Wildcat faithful.” said Director of Business Operations, Ryan Jenner. “This pick is an asset that will help our hockey operations as they plot the direction towards a championship.”
We are extremely excited about the future of the Wildcats organization. With the inaugural season in the Avenir Centre complete, we would like to extend a sincere thank you to all our fans for their continued support. We are excited about the future of the team, and look forward to sharing that with you next season.
The 2019 QMJHL draft will take place this summer at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City on Saturday June 8
