ASI resumes Gyanvapi mosque complex 'scientific survey' amid tight security

The Archaeological Survey of India has resumed the "scientific survey" to ascertain whether the Gyanvapi mosque was built over a pre-existing structure of a Hindu temple. The survey was stalled for a week and resumed with beefed up security on Friday. The Allahabad High Court gave permission for a scientific investigation and survey of the mosque on 25 August, saying that it was "necessary in the interest of justice" and would benefit both sides. The Varanasi court had previously ordered the ASI to survey the mosque on 21 July.

South Korean police pursue suspect in 2nd stabbing attack in 2 days

A man rammed a car onto a sidewalk Thursday in South Korea, then stepped out of the vehicle and began stabbing people at a shopping mall, which left at least 14 people were wounded in the city of Seongnam. Just hours after South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on Friday called for “ultra-strong” law enforcement measures in response to that attack, police found themselves chasing the suspect in another stabbing incident at a high school in Daejeon city. Fresh violence brings back total curfew in both Imphal districts

A Manipur Rifles jawan and another man suffered gunshots when unidentified gunmen opened fire at Senjam Chirang in Imphal West district on Thursday morning. A confrontation between a mob and security forces occurred in Imphal West and Imphal East districts as well, with hundreds of people attempting to storm the battalion headquarters of 2nd and 7th Manipur Rifles, demanding arms and ammunition. The forces repelled the attack. The violence prompted authorities to re-impose a total curfew in both districts.
