Bungie's Halo Player Stat Tracking Website Is Being Shut Down
Bungie has now announced that they will be removing all of the player stats for the Halo games that it worked on from its website next month.
After nearly fifteen years Bungie has finally announced that it will be taking down its original Halo website which holds player statistics and information from the early games in the series. While the stats and info had stopped being updated nine years ago, it is incredibly sad for many who enjoyed having that info up for nostalgia's sake.
Considering the fact that it is the 20-year anniversary of Halo: Combat Evolved, it may be a little depressing to hear that info from past games will disappear into the void of the internet. This by no means indicates that the franchise is going anywhere or that those early entries will be forgotten. Those who really want to relive the former glory of the Halo series can always just pick up the Master Chief Collection. Players are able to experience almost every game in the franchise from the original all the way up to Halo 4.
In an announcement yesterday, Bungie stated that all of the players' stats will be removed from its old website and the website itself is going to be permanently shut down on February 9th. While all of the news or forum posts on that website were incorporated in Bungie's current website back in 2013, player stats didn't make that cut. This means that those stats will be completely and permanently removed from the internet unless players save the info themselves. Those who wish to do just that have less than a month to do so, so they should make it a priority soon.
Since Bungie split from Mircosoft and officially handed the Halo franchise to 343 Industries, the newer company has made an effort to bring Halo into the future. Fans of the franchise are currently in great anticipation over Halo Infinite, which has been delayed until late in 2021. This newest entry in the series is being touted as bigger and more ambitious than any other Halo game, and this has caused players to become understandably excited by Infinite's prospects.
It may be sad that Bungie will be completely erasing old player stats, but it also only makes sense for the company. Bungie no longer has any connection to the Halo series and spends all of its time working on Destiny 2 instead. Those stats may represent the collective accomplishments of players around the world, but those players will still have memories of those accolades. Those who are still upset though can always pop on over to the website before February 9th and download all of their Halo stats.
