Aaron Boone said the Yankees were “punched in the mouth” this weekend and he is right. Getting swept for the second time by the Red Sox is bad enough, but getting swept with your ace on the mound is much worse.
And while it’s easy to blame Cole for today, how do you explain a weekend in Fenway where the Yankees had a total of three extra-base hits? Or where they keep making bad baseball plays like missing the cutoff man or throwing to the wrong base? I said it a few weeks ago, and I will say it again, this team needs a shake up. There are too many mistakes, too many excuse, and not enough toughness in this club. Brian Cashman has to see that, doesn’t he?
