Caution: Spoilers Ahead for Euphoria Season 2, Episode 7
Fez was adamant on making it to Lexi's play in Euphoria season 2, episode 7, but his seat stayed empty. Euphoria season 2 has given Lexi the spotlight in numerous ways, fleshing out her unlikely relationship with East Highland's resident drug dealer and following her as she prepared to put on a school play documenting her and the lives of her friends. Interspersed throughout the latest episode, Lexi's play, titled "Our Life," documented the tumultuous early teen years of the Howard family and Lexi and Cassie's friends, including Rue, Kat, and Maddy.
Throughout the episode, Lexi's relationship with Fez is once again at the forefront as he prepares to get ready to attend the show. This included showing Fez's houseguest Faye steaming his suit and giving opinions on his outfit. This is interrupted when Custer shows up. A former associate of Mouse—the drug supplier Fez and Ashtray murdered in the Euphoria season 2 premiere—Custer has remained in the background until the last few episodes, when he revealed to Faye that he is cooperating with the police to implicate Fez and Ashtray. As Custer prepares to record Fez potentially confessing to a myriad of crimes, the tension ramps up as Lexi's play simultaniously crescendoes with a show-stopping musical number centered around Nate Jacobs. So why didn't Fez make it to Lexi's play?
It seems likely that something major went down at Fez's house that prevented him from making it to Lexi's play. What that could be remains a mystery, but it's possible Ashtray's suspicions about Custer took a violent turn. The young drug dealer has already proven to have a penchant for violence after he brutally murdered Mouse unprompted. One thing is clear, though—Fez's relationship with Lexi could be affected by him not making it to the play if he even makes it out of the Euphoria season 2 finale alive.
The trailer for the Euphoria season 2 finale teases plenty of violence. While Maddy confronting Cassie on stage in the auditorium will upend Lexi's shining moment, it also shows things going awry at Fez's house. Fez can be seen banging on a door at his house, but who's behind it isn't shown. Also in the clip are various clips of guns and someone pulling the trigger on a gun. Finally, it also shows Fez on the ground screaming as if he is being held down.
With original plans for Euphoria seeing Fez die early in the show's run, it's possible he perishes in the season 2 finale. This would put a tragic endpoint on Fez and Lexi's season 2 arc, which has become a fan-favorite over the preceding seven episodes. Due to the way Euphoria plays with its timeline in each episode, the answer as to why Fez didn't make it to Lexi's play won't be revealed until the finale, but it seems more than likely that the character's arc could come to a tragic conclusion at the end of Euphoria season 2.
The Euphoria season 2 finale drops Sunday, February 27 on HBO Max.
