Journalist explains when Conte is likely to make decision on Tottenham future

The Telegraph’s Matt Law has revealed that Antonio Conte wants to be sure that he has the resources to compete for major trophies at Tottenham before committing his future to the club.

Gianluca Di Marzio predicted on his L’Originale program on Sky Sport Italy (as relayed by Metro) over the weekend that Conte will walk away from Tottenham at the end of the season.

However, the journalist clarified on his official website yesterday evening that Conte is focused on the present at the moment and does not want to think about his future.

He added that Spurs had offered the 53-year-old a new deal but the Italian has asked the club to put the talks over his future on ‘standby’.

Law has now taken to social media to reveal that Conte has not made a decision on the future and suggested that it could be impacted by how Tottenham get on for the rest of the campaign,  adding the Spurs head coach is likely to put off the decision until the summer as he wants to be sure that the Lilywhites can be competitive.

Antonio Conte has not made any decision on his Tottenham future – nothing likely until much closer to the end of the season or even once it has finished. As has always been the case, Conte wants to be sure he can be competitive to win. Still an awful lot to play for this season.

Spurs Web Opinion

The Tottenham hierarchy would be quite pleased with Conte’s decision to stall on a new contract as they themselves would be having doubts regarding whether he is the right man for the job. It is increasingly starting to feel like a divorce at the end of the season (or potentially sooner) would be the right move for all parties involved.
