AN internet dad has revealed his tips for preventing cold air from seeping into your house during winter.
He also shared an easy trick on how to stop your pipes from freezing.
TikToker Bo (@dadadvicefrombo) shared six easy tips about how to winterize your home in a new video.
“Winter is coming. I teamed up with @USAA to make sure your home is ready for freezing temps,” he wrote. “Love, Dad.”
His first tip is to stop cold air from seeping under your house and freezing your pipes.
All you have to do is cover your foundation vents with crawl space covers, which can be purchased via Amazon for $32.
His second trick is to disconnect any hoses that are still connected and “install a cover on every outside faucet you have.”
Bo reminded: “A little time preventing this is a lot cheaper than fixing it.”
The DIYer’s third winter hack is about the sprinkler system. He said to turn off the water, blow out the excess water, and insulate it.
Bo said homeowners should try to cover any exposed pipes with foam so they don’t freeze.
“Water expands when it freezes so it will crack your pipes, causing costly pipe repair at best,” he said.
Pipe insulation can be purchased via Home Depot for $3.
Second to last, Bo said it’s important to know how to shut off the main water line.
“When you catch any type of water leak, the faster you turn off your water source, the less damage it can do,” he said.
Bo said that’s a year-round tip: “This goes for all seasons, not just winter.”
The water source is usually found outside by the sidewalk.
Bo’s final tip is to allow the sink faucets to drip at night if it’s going to drop to freezing temperatures.
“Leaving water dripping keeps it running through the pipes and lessens the chance of freezing,” Bo said.
