My 4-ingredient DIY shampoo includes the holy grail of hair growth – it’s working wonders but people worry it stinks
A HAIRCARE fan has revealed how she keeps her mane long and healthy.
She said her DIY shampoo is great for hair growth, but some have concerns about the possible smell.
Dede (@curlyhairdede) filmed herself producing the concoction in a video on TikTok.
“DIY shampoo for extreme hair growth: Unleashing the power of nature with this homemade shampoo,” she said.
The botanical creation is infused for three days with various ingredients with a specific intention for each element.
The recipe calls for cinnamons, whole cloves, rosemary, and red onions.
“Here’s how it contributes to healthy hair,” she said. “Cinnamon: boosts blood circulation to the scalp, stimulating hair follicles for healthy growth.
“Contains antioxidants that helps strengthen your hair and reduces damage,” she added of the cinnamon sticks.
She included a popular herb for hair growth, often used in hair oils.
“Rosemary,” she said. “The holy grail for hair growth. Strengthens hair strands, reduces dandruff, and promotes a vibrant, clean scalp.”
She also included a common kitchen staple in her mixture, describing it as nothing short of magical.
“Cloves,” she said. “Antimicrobial magic.
“Fights off unwanted dirt and bacteria from the scalp to create a healthy, clean scalp to enhance hair growth.
“Cloves are rich in vitamins (K, C, and B) and minerals that contribute to hair health,” she added.
Finally, she explained her reasoning for using an element that caused some controversy — red onions.
“Onions,” she said. “Sulfur-packed goodness.
“This plays a huge factor in collagen and keratin production, supporting strong, resilient, long hair,” she added of the notoriously pungent root vegetable.
She recommended washing hair with the homemade shampoo “twice every washday,” rinsing it out throughly, and following up with the usual shampoo and conditioner “of choice.”
“Rinse using cool/cold water. This will reduce the aroma of onion and enhance shine and health,” she added.
She also recommended starting off with a patch test to make sure there’s no adverse reaction to the homemade shampoo.
Even with the advice, many expressed concern about the aroma in the comment section, with one writing: “The onions though? It doesn’t make you stink?”
“Allergic to onion,” another commented. “What’s a good alternative if there is one?”
“Ginger is a great replacement,” Dede replied.
