Indiana governor seeks childcare and education policies in his final year
Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb's agenda for this year's legislative session includes improving access to childcare and strengthening education from preschool through college. He wants to test literacy in the second grade and make it harder for third-graders who don't pass it to get promoted. Exemptions currently enable 96% of those who don't pass move up anyway. The governor also wants to make it easier for teenagers to work as childcare providers. Holcomb can't run again due to term limits so this is his eighth and final session. He spoke Monday at the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Indianapolis.
