Italian cook 'The Pasta Queen' hits back at people who think she should wear a hairnet in her popular cooking videos

The popular saying goes that you should never have too many cooks in the kitchen, and one beloved chef is tired of people telling her how to do her job.

Nadia Caterina Munno, also known as "The Pasta Queen," has more than five million followers across Instagram and TikTok who love watching her cooking videos dedicated to authentic Italian cuisine.

But social media fame always brings its share of criticism, and Munno was tired of reading comments from people criticizing how she wore her hair while cooking in her own home.

"People have a lot of issues with cooks that don't follow specific rules, and I love making statements," Munno told Business Insider. "Just like with my red lips and red nails, I love being unique, owning your gorgeousness, and shining through — even in your kitchen."

So Munno decided to finally address the criticism once and for all in a video on Wednesday. And she didn't hold back.

"Why don't you tie your hair when you cook? Is this enough of an explanation? Look at me!" Munno dramatically said to the camera at the beginning of the clip, ripping a hair cap off her head.

"This is my kitchen, this is my world, this is my food!" she continued. "I cook how I want, and my hair is part of my essence. Why do you want to take that away from me? If I want to cook with my hair down, it is my right, and I shall do as I please. You will never see me wearing a little cap."

Munno then addressed one critic who she said has been "leaving the same comment for the last three years" on her page.

"'Why don't you tie your hair? Is that cacio e pepe and hair?"' Munno said, reciting the comments. "It might be, but it's my hair, and I love it, and I eat it as I please!"

"This is not your restaurant. This is not an inspected hygiene government facility," she continued. "This is the Pasta Queen kitchen, and it shall remain so no matter what anybody says. And this is a Pasta Queen service announcement."

Munno is no stranger to negative social media comments. She previously made a video addressing criticism of her long nails, and she told BI that people have also accused her of faking her Italian accent or heritage (Munno was born and raised in Rome).

But Munno said she wanted to address the comments in a lighthearted way because the video wasn't really for her haters but rather fellow women — especially chefs — who are frequently criticized for their appearance.

"I don't think there's anything that will stop haters being hateful," she told BI. "My video was more to boost confidence in a lot of women, because I think it's women that more often get attacked for their looks, or wearing too much makeup, or dressing 'inappropriately.'"

"Don't be put down by people who tell you how you have to be, what you have to say, what you have to dress like because that's what the haters do," she added. "You should just disregard that and be yourself — keep being beautiful and sassy and loud."

At the end of the day, Munno hopes people will realize that the food you cook at home is for yourself and your loved ones — so you should do as you please.

"Have fun in the kitchen and be gorgeous," she said. "Dress up, wear your long nails, keep your long hair flowing. There's no rules that we follow here."
