LASG CALLS FOR MORE RESEARCH TO PROMOTE ARTS, CULTURE
As part of efforts to promote arts and culture in the state, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture (LCAC), Mr. Idowu Johnson has reiterated calls for rigorous research about the arts and culture of the state.
Johnson stated that research, which is a veritable means of documentation, is key to the preservation and promotion of arts and culture.
The LCAC Boss stated this during a courtesy visit by the top management staff of the Council to former Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Sewanu Fadipe at his country home, Iworo Ajido in Olorunda Local Council Development Area.
The LCAC boss disclosed that the council is poised to digitalise information relating to arts and culture in the state. However, the initiative is capital-intensive and the current paucity of funds has made it a daunting challenge.
He stressed the LCAC is assiduously working to utilise culture as a viable tool for revenue generation in line with its mandate.
Responding, Mr Fadipe stated that the major task of the LCAC management is to improve the lot of the Council and urged the Management to vigorously promote the LCAC as it also trains and retrain its staff.
While recalling the successful outing of the state troupe which he led to Cuba to perform the Yemoja stage play, the former Permanent Secretary enjoined the Council to revitalise the state troupe.
The erstwhile PS called for more dedication on the part of the staff submitting that the Council requires dedicated leaders with political will for effectiveness and efficiency in the discharge of its mandate.
