MasterChef hopeful sent home after leaving Gregg Wallace horrified with ‘raw’ meat
A MasterChef hopeful was axed tonight after serving up raw lamb.
Barbecue enthusiast Matt insisted it was properly cooked but judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode struggled to eat it.
As he started plating up, Gregg said: “It looks very rare to me, is that right?”
Matt, who boasted he was the BBQ master, replied: “Yeah, if you over cook this, it will be super dry.”
John later moaned: “The lamb was not cooked, it was raw.”
Those watching at home were equally as horrified, with one person commenting: “That lamb was still in the womb.”
A second said: “That lamb is still bleating.”
While a third added: “Sorry chap, there’s ‘rare’ & there’s ‘raw’.”
And a fourth remarked: “That lamb should be on #countryfile not #MasterChef.”
At the end of the challenge the judges revealed that Matt was getting sent home and missing out on a place in the quarter finals.
Gregg told him: “Matt, it was a very tight call. Sorry to see you go.”
Afterwards he said: “I am happy with what I have done. I tried my hardest, the pressure is unbelievable.”
He lost out to Hope, Fateha and Brin, who fans will get to see cook later on in the competition.
Matt – a butcher from Blackpool – said of his cooking style as he joined the show: “My cooking style is a mix of different influences. I grew up eating mostly home-cooked meals, so I’m comfortable with making a variety of dishes from scratch.
“I also love trying new things, so I’m always looking for new recipes to try out. In general, I would say my cooking style is pretty and flavourful.
“I like to cook modern food but sometimes you can’t beat the classics.”
