Queen’s Park Fans, Sponsors, Players, Management Team and Officials, of the club and the Queen’s Park Supporters Association, got together this afternoon at The city Stadium to present their Awards for Season 2023/ 24.
On the back of a fine 5-0 win at Arbroath yesterday, and with a crunch game with Airdrieonians to come on Friday, Head Coach Callum Davidson said: “It is great to have a chance to speak to the supporters and sponsors. It is the first chance I have had to do something like this since I came in.
“As well as thanking everyone for the support they have given us, not just at this event, but during the games I have been in charge for. I would like to thank the players for coming along and I know they appreciate the backing they get, and we will very much need that backing again on Friday night.”
The winners were:
The Queen’s Park FC Goal of the Season – Dom Thomas.
The Award, presented by supporter Thomas Hudson, was voted for by Queen’s Park Supporter Association members and is given in in memory of legendary club supporter, Stewart “The Vicar” Hendry.
Dom’s winning goal was a superb curling effort from 20 yards at the KDM Group East End Park home of Dunfermline Athletic.
Ruari Paton picked up the Award on behalf of Dom who was unable to attend due to a family commitment.
The Queen’s Park FC Young Player of the Season – Liam McLeish.
This award was presented by John Richmond in name of his late father Roy Richmond.
Liam was the top goal-scorer in the cinch SPFL Reserve League and also notched his first ever senior goal in a 6-0 win over Arbroath at Hampden.
The Queen’s Park Young Supporters’ Player of the Year – Calum Ferrie.
Goalkeeper Calum Ferrie was voted by the younger supporters for his excellent displays between the sticks throughout the season.
Harris Hunter made the presentation.
The Travel Club Queen’s Park Player of the Year – Jack Thomson
Supporters who travel on the Supporters Association buses to away games select their Player of the Day after the final whistle has been sounded.
After the votes throughout the season were totalled Jack Thomson’s displays in defence and midfield saw him chosen as the winner of The Martin Kelly Trophy.
The award in the name of a well-remembered supporter was presented by Susan Myles.
The Queen’s Park Supporters Association Player of the Year – Calum Ferrie
Members of the Supporters Association select their 1-2-3 of top performers throughout the season with the winner presented with a trophy in name of Mrs Ivy Riddell.
Calum was presented with the award, which is named after Ivy, who followed Queen’s Park home and away into her 90’s, by Claire McNaught.
Double prize-winner Calum said afterwards: “It is an honour to be chosen as the Player of the Year for Queen’s Park. I would like to thank everyone, young and old, for their votes.”
“It is a real team effort at the club between the goalies and our coach Glen Johnson as well as all the outfield players. We have a huge game coming up this week and it is one that we are all very determined to win.”
“It will be great to see and hear all the people that were here today at Hampden.”
