Ferrari unveil powerful new supercar to replace discontinued model – & it’ll hit over 200 mph

FERRARI have revealed their new flagship GT that’s the long-awaited replacement for an iconic model.

The corking 12Cilindri model has been unveiled – on the backdrop of the weekend’s Miami Grand Prix – to commemorate Ferrari’s 70th anniversary in the US market.

The stunning supercar is more powerful than its predecessor, the 812 Superfast, and boasts a new style coupled with a raft of technological upgrades.

The 12Cilindri goes from 0-62mph in just 2.9 seconds and has a top speed that, according to Autocar, will at least match the 812’s 211 mph.

Crucially, under the hood remains Ferrari’s 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine – although there are fears this could be the brand’s last front-engined V12 Ferrari ever.

It’s been noted that the Maranello firm invested heavily in making the biggest engine that remains compliant with new emission regulations.

Enrico Galliera, Ferrari’s chief marketing and commercial officer, said: “The work that has been done on this engine to remain performant and compliant with the regulation is absolutely stunning, which is probably one of the reasons why there are not many manufacturers that keep investing in the V12 engine.”

Both the hard-top coupe and open-roof Spider iterations were unveiled at the same time – with UK pricing expected to be revealed closer to the car’s launch in the first half of 2025.

However, they’re expected to cost around €395,000 and €435,000 respectively in Italy – which tops roughly £375k.

Galliera refused to announce the projected sale figures for the new GT flagship – because he doesn’t believe his “business is done by numbers”.

Flavio Manzoni, chief design officer, claimed Ferrari was entering into “a new era … with this car”.

He added that the 12Cilindri was “a clear departure from the line of the previous generations, especially the 812 Competizione, which was very sculptural, muscular, technical, and so on”.

The car’s probing bonnet, muscular haunches and redefined rear is stylistically a complete departure from its predecessor.

What’s more, the 12Cilindri’s exterior pays homage to the legendary Ferrari 365 GTB/4 – one of the Italian brand’s most iconic motors.

However, Manzoni claims the design was not a “nostalgic approach” but instead showed how Ferrari is “thinking about the future with full respect to the past”.

Another new feature added to the supercar’s exterior is two flaps on each side.

Integrated into the bodywork, they boost downforce at speed while maximising the boot space and providing a cleaner look when stationary.

The most noticeable structural change to the 12Cilndri is a 20mm reduction in wheelbase.

This means the new car is more agile and responsive compared to the 812, Ferrari claims.

For the first time, brake-by-wire technology was installed which allows for varying brake force across all four wheels.

A new ABS-Evo system also was added to improve braking and shorten stopping distances.

All of these systems work together with Ferrari’s latest Side Slip Control technology.

It was designed to rapidly measure movements to maximise traction and performance in all conditions.

It comes after an ultra-rare Ferrari worth £2.6million was wrecked by a dealership employee on the way to a car show.

Meanwhile, a supercar brand has revealed its new range of Batman-inspired models, including an EV it claims is “faster than an F1 car”.
