Millions of Tesco shoppers can earn EXTRA Clubcard points worth up to £100 within days
MILLIONS of Tesco shoppers will have the chance to bag bonus Clubcard points worth up to £100 within days.
The UK’s largest supermarket is shaking up its loyalty programme to give customers more opportunities to earn points.
Three million will be invited to take part in its “Clubcard Challenges” game, running between May 20 and July 1.
If they agree to sign up, they will receive 20 personalised challenges across the six week period.
The challenges will come on top of any personalised deals customers already get via the app or email.
Because the challenges are personal, they vary between shoppers, ranging from offers to buy products to spending money on plant-based meals.
Once customers have completed the challenge they will be rewarded with extra Clubcard points.
Of the 20 challenges offered to them, customers can choose 10 they most want to complete and get a maximum £50 in Clubcard points.
Shoppers can also bump the price up to £100 if they decide to spend the vouchers with one of Tesco’s 100 reward partners.
Partners include the RAC, Disney+, the Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and Pizza Express.
Shoppers eligible to take part in the campaign will be be emailed and also see a banner on their Tesco Clubcard app.
If you’re not contacted, unfortunately you won’t be able to take part as you can only play if you are selected.
It’s not the first change Tesco has made to its Clubcard scheme in recent years.
Last month, it started rolling out its new Clubcard Prices logo after being found to have infringed Lidl’s trademark over the use of a yellow circle on a blue background.
Tesco has also started adding unit pricing to its Clubcard price labels on shelves.
Unit prices make it easier for shoppers to compare similar items of different sizes and choose the best deal.
THERE are plenty of ways to save on your grocery shop.
You can look out for yellow or red stickers on products, which show when they’ve been reduced.
If the food is fresh, you’ll have to eat it quickly or freeze it for another time.
Making a list should also save you money, as you’ll be less likely to make any rash purchases when you get to the supermarket.
Going own brand can be one easy way to save hundreds of pounds a year on your food bills too.
This means ditching “finest” or “luxury” products and instead going for “own” or value” type of lines.
Plenty of supermarkets run wonky veg and fruit schemes where you can get cheap prices if they’re misshapen or imperfect.
For example, Lidl runs its Waste Not scheme, offering boxes of 5kg of fruit and vegetables for just £1.50.
If you’re on a low income and a parent, you may be able to get up to £442 a year in Healthy Start vouchers to use at the supermarket too.
Plus, many councils offer supermarket vouchers as part of the Household Support Fund.
Tesco isn’t the first retailer to shake up its loyalty scheme either.
This week, Lidl changed its Lidl Plus app offering customers added discounts at the tills.
In March, bargain retailer The Works axed its “Together Rewards” loyalty scheme in a blow for shoppers.
How does the Tesco Clubcard scheme work?
Tesco Clubcard shoppers can earn points as they shop, which can then be turned into vouchers for money off food or other reward partner schemes.
You earn one point for each £1 spent, and each point is then worth 1p.
So 150 points gets you £1.50, and you would have to spend £150 to get 150 points.
You need a minimum of 150 points to request a voucher.
Any vouchers are worth their face value when used in-store at Tesco.
But you can double their worth by spending them at one of the supermarket chain’s partners.
Loyalty card holders also get access to over 8,000 items for less through Clubcard Prices.
These Clubcard prices save the average member £351 on their annual shop, according to Tesco.
