Tottenham Hotspur finished the season with a 3-0 win over Sheffield United this evening, thus bringing an end to Ange Postecoglou’s debut season in the Premier League.
Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:
Guglielmo Vicario – 6 – A very quiet day for Vicario between the sticks, apart from some pushing and shoving from set-pieces. Looks like he’s sticking up for himself a bit more now.
Pedro Porro – 9 – Tottenham’s best player today. Solid defensively but did his best work going forward. Was unlucky not to find the bottom corner with an arrow of a shot in the first half, and he put one on a plate for Romero to tap in. Finally got his goal with an absolute thunderblast on 60 minutes. Wow!
Cristian Romero – 7 – Seemed determined to grab a goal today with some of his forward runs. Missed a bit of a sitter from a pin-point Porro cross. A typically no-nonsense and industrious display.
Radu Dragusin – 7 – Looked a little nervy in the opening minutes when he nearly gifted Sheffield a goal with a sideways header. After that, he was composed and assured. The highlight of his game was a marauding run down the centre of the pitch and some great give-and-goes.
Micky Van de Ven – 7.5 – Looked far more comfortable at left-back today with some really nice underlapping runs. Won the ball back superbly to set up Tottenham’s opener. In fact, both goals came from Van de Ven getting a strong foot in. Good to know Spurs have cover at left-back next season.
Rodrigo Bentancur – 7 – Looked a lot better today after his angry substitution last week. Bentancur had so much time on the ball against Sheffield, it allowed him to dictate the pace with very little pressure. Hit the post with a delightful curled effort from the edge of the box.
Pape Matar Sarr – 7 – A typical all-action display from Sarr. He really can play anywhere across the pitch and do a job for the team. I think he has a great future as a box-to-box midfielder in the Premier League.
James Maddison – 7.5 – Seems to have that creative spark back now but his shooting boots are missing. That’s a couple of one-on-ones he’s missed in the last month. Created Tottenham’s third goal with a superb cross to Kulusevski.
Dejan Kulusevski – 8.5 – Took his opener really nicely at a time when Sheffield were on top. Arrowed that left-footed effort into the bottom corner and should have really made it two ten minutes later when he went through on goal. He did eventually make it two by tapping home Maddison’s cross in the second 45.
Heung-min Son – 8 – Set up Kulusevski’s goal and should have had another assist when he put Maddison one-on-one. Also had a couple of good chances himself that were well saved. Just looks so much sharper off that left wing. What a pass to set Maddison away for the third goal too!
Brennan Johnson – 7.5 – Much more like it today, taking defenders on and whipping dangerous crosses into the box. Nice lay-off to assist Porro. Another player who will benefit from a summer working under Postecoglou.
Substitute:
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 6 – Came on to see the game out.
Emerson Royal – 6 – Subbed on for the MOTM Pedro Porro.
Oliver Skipp – 6 – Came on for Pape Matar Sarr with 15 minutes to go.
Dane Scarlett – N/A
Mikey Moore – N/A
