A courtroom full of Trump sycophants | Letters to the editor
A reader sees hypocrisy in congressional Republicans who visit Donald Trump's courtroom trial over hush money payments to a porn star while espousing "family values."
MAGA Republican sycophants including Sens. Rick Scott, Tommy Tuberville and J.D. Vance; House Speaker Mike Johnson; U.S. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y.; and others too numerous to name are the epitome of hypocrisy.
They all showed up to kiss Donald Trump’s ring and bend over backward, kowtowing to him at his New York hush money/campaign finance trial. But what happened to the Republican evangelical Christian “conservative family values” mantra? I thought family values meant a strong moral compass with no adultery or lying or cheating.
Trump makes a mockery of religion, selling copies of the Bible to make a quick buck. He admitted to talking about grabbing women’s private parts, yet the GOP and evangelicals line up behind this immoral carnival barker for their own hypocritical, self-serving ends.
MAGA Republicans and so-called evangelicals choose to close their eyes and look away. Don’t let Trump’s behavior get in the way of your ambitions.

Blind loyalty
So, what’s one day away from his congressional responsibilities for House Speaker Johnson to show blind loyalty to Trump in a New York City courtroom?
The same goes for “anti-Socialist” Sen. Rick Scott, Vivek Ramaswamy and others.
They’re just angling for future jobs that hopefully will never come to be — if we save our country.

Did they pay their own way?
I certainly respect the rights of U.S. Reps. Matt Gaetz and Mike Waltz to support Donald Trump at his trial in a New York courtroom.
I’m just wondering if taxpayers covered their travel expenses or if they paid for it out of their own pockets.

Biden and Chinese tariffs
I understand that President Biden has placed very high new tariffs on electric cars made in China.
This is apparently on top of the increase that Trump imposed as president, so Biden’s tariff is on top of Trump’s tariff. I haven’t researched this, but I don’t see many electric cars from China in the U.S. Also, these new tariffs may apply to a few automotive parts rather than the car’s total cost.
In any case, it does not appear that news media has challenged any of this. Biden’s tariff is politically misleading. The actual cost will determine if China can make any headway in the U.S.
There is a real market for electric vehicles in the U.S., and the question is whether U.S. automakers can develop an electric car at an affordable price. The automobile industry is complicated, and the administration should not spread misleading information for political purposes.

For healthy moms worldwide
I write in response to the news articles on the maternal health care in Broward County, written by Sun Sentinel medical reporter Cindy Krischer Goodman.
I commend the vital role of a new health care center in Lauderdale Lakes in improving maternal and child health in underserved communities. This initiative is a crucial step forward in addressing local health care disparities.
However, as we celebrate these advancements, we must not lose sight of our global responsibilities.
Sen. Marco Rubio has consistently demonstrated his commitment to maternal and child health care initiatives, domestically and globally. His co-sponsorship of the 2021 “Improving Coordination for Healthy Moms Act” aims to streamline federal efforts to improve maternal health outcomes.
An estimated 94% of maternal deaths occur in low-resource settings in foreign countries. Our commitment to maternal and child health should extend beyond borders, ensuring that all children have a chance to thrive. I urge Sen. Rubio to maximize efficiency of foreign aid in high-impact child health interventions.
