OVER-THE-COUNTER products transformed a beauty enthusiast’s skin after years of suffering from hormonal acne.
They shared the skincare routine that visibly transformed their skin in just one week.
They took to Reddit’s Skincare Addiction forum writing under the name Noiresilk to share how they cleared their acne.
“I’ve suffered from hormonal acne since my early teens, so recently I was experimenting with new products (African Black Soap and a lot of random moisturizers) and my skin had a meltdown,” they said.
“I was breaking out everywhere, including all across my forehead which normally never happens.
“I switched back to my previous routine of 2.5% BP cleanser and Cerave moisturizer, and my skin STILL would not clear up.”
The Redditor said they were planning to see a dermatologist as after two months they still didn’t see an improvement in their skin.
However, they first decided to experiment again because their skin “could not get any worse.”
“I had a jar of Noxzema Cleansing Cream lying around and mixed my BP cleanser into the jar, lol,” they said.
“I layered it on like a mask and let it sit for around 5-10 minutes, then I washed it off with a clean washcloth.
“My skin looked and felt better just after one use but I still had residue left on my skin from the cream so I went in with a cotton round and some Witch Hazel then moisturized with Garnier Skin Active Aloe Moisturizer.
“Overnight I used these pimple patches from Alba Botanica on any active zits.
“I use Cerave Ultra Lightweight Lotion SPF 30 during the day.
“I’ve only been doing this for a week (morning and night) and my skin is almost completely clear aside from some acne scars of course and I still have a few tiny, stubborn whiteheads on my forehead.
“I haven’t had any new breakouts since.”
Noxzema Classic Clean Original Deep Cleansing Cream has been formulated to remove dirt and oil from the skin.
Meanwhile, Benzoyl Peroxide gel is a daily treatment for acne-prone skin.
Both products have been highly rated by Target customers and cost less than $5 each.
What causes hormonal acne?
Hormonal acne can affect people of any age, according to Healthline.
It may be caused by hormones related to menstruation, menopause, polycystic ovarian syndrome, or an increase in androgen levels.
The cystic bumps usually require prescribed medication as they are too deep under the skin for over-the-counter products to be effective.
Experts advise people with hormonal acne to wash their face regularly and avoid products that could clog pores.
It is also recommended to limit the consumption of sugar, refined carbs, and dairy products.
The recommendation to use drugstore products to treat acne comes after another Redditor raved about an affordable product banishing their scars.
Writing under the name Broccoliandbeans, they praised The Ordinary’s 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil.
They said the impressive results left them staring at themself in the mirror in disbelief.
Many responses to the post said they were also wowed by the product which costs $10.90 at Sephora.
“Rosehip oil also worked really well on my PIE [Post-inflammatory erythema],” one person commented.
“It also totally clogged all my pores and broke me out horrendously.
“It’s the vitamin A that helps clear marks, which you can also get from retinoids!”
“Agree 100%,” another said.
“I use Cosrx whitehead liquid power aha, wait 30 mins, and apply TO’s rosehip oil before bed. My skin is starting to look like rich people’s skin.”
