Thrillseekers fume as Thorpe Park closes UK’s brand new tallest & fastest rollercoaster for FIVE days
THRILLSEEKERS have been left fuming as a new rollercoaster has closed for five days straight after taking the crown as the UK’s tallest.
The attraction has been shut down due to “unforeseen circumstances”, with an update promised in the coming days.
But visitors today blaster the park after some travelled miles to experience the ride.
Pictures have emerged on social media of people queuing for the ride today, suggesting the closure was not pre-planned.
Fans were understandably disappointed with the sudden announcement.
One wrote: “We bought tickets especially and are travelling a long way to come..can we get a refund on our tickets?”
Another added: “As gold pass holders we have paid the upgrade fee on bank holiday Monday specifically for Hyperia.
“What is being done for those of us who have paid to upgrade tickets?”
A third simply said: “No!”
The new Hyperia ride at Thorpe Park stands at a whopping 236ft tall, claimed to be a foot taller than the record-breaking Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
It can also reach reach a head-spinning 81mph, shattering speed records too.
The coaster was launched in an exclusive VIP preview event, which was attended by The Sun’s Lee Bell, who described it as “unlike any other rollercoaster in the UK right now.”
But the park announced this afternoon that Hyperia will be forced to close from today to May 29.
The reason has not been disclosed, but The Sun understands that there were no technical issues found during the launch or the first day of public opening.
Bosses have promised an update in the next few days with details of the reopening.
However, they also announced that pre-booked customers would be compensated with free entry once the ride is back up and running..
Anyone who had booked for today will be able to book a free return visit via the park’s website.
Those with tickets for other days will be contacted to arrange an alternative date for their visit.
A statement from Thorpe Park read: “Due to unforeseen circumstances we are unable to open Hyperia between Sunday, May 26 and Wednesday, May 29.
“We will update our ride availability page with the latest information regarding the opening of Hyperia beyond May 29.
“We apologise for the disappointment this will cause and we are working hard to reopen Hyperia as soon as possible and will keep people updated via our website and social media.”
