In 1973, Roger Mallinson and Roger Chapman became trapped 1,575 feet beneath the Atlantic after theirPisces IIIsubmersible was damaged and sank during a cable-laying mission. After spending 76 hours on the seabed, an international rescue effort brought them safely to the surface with only about 12 minutes of air remaining.
