An Arizona man lost his $450,000 Mesa home after falling $977 behind on HOA fees. Toby Newton said he lost his job and was diagnosed with diabetes before missing quarterly assessments. Despite proposing payment plans, foreclosure proceedings began, and the home was eventually sold to the HOA for $8,172. The case came as Arizona changed its HOA foreclosure rules in 2025.
