FSSAI is considering a nationwide ban on analogue paneer, a non-dairy substitute that uses ingredients such as vegetable oils, starches and emulsifiers instead of traditional milk-based ingredients. FSSAI chief said the regulator will seek feedback from states at a September 24 meeting, with a national ban possible if there is consensus. Eight states have already taken action against analogue paneer, while the regulator is also examining clearer labelling and stricter oversight of such products.
